Asphalt Shingle

Do self-adhesive asphalt shingles still need to be fixed with nails

It needs to be fixed with nails. The self-adhesive type is convenient for installation, but the main fixation still requires nails. Because adhesives are auxiliary and not foolproof. Fixing with nails can prevent damage from strong winds and ensure a long-lasting and reliable mechanical connection.

It is recommended to use anti-rust roof nails, usually galvanized steel roof nails or stainless steel nails.

The correct way to nail: Each asphalt shingle usually requires at least 4 to 6 nails. Nails should be driven into the upper part of the tiles, within the overlapping area of the tiles, and not exposed to the outside. This can prevent water leakage. Make sure the nails penetrate the tiles and are fixed to the base plate, but when nailing, avoid applying excessive force to prevent the nails from going too deep. The head of the nail should be slightly exposed or flush with the tile, rather than completely embedded inside the tile.

Are the screws for joining the sheets together with the smaller holes or are they to fix the sheets onto the battons?

These fasteners are primarily designed forsecuring purposes— they penetrate the asphalt shingles and fasten them firmly to the substrate. Our asphalt shingles feature a self-adhesive backing foreasy installation, but nailing is still required toprevent wind damageand ensure along-lasting, reliable mechanical connection.
