Wall Sticker Measuring Guide: How to Measure Your Walls and Calculate How Much You Need

Before buying wall stickers, it is essential to measure your walls correctly and calculate the required quantity.

By following the steps below, you can avoid buying too much or too little and complete your wall decoration project smoothly.

Step 1: Prepare Your Tools and Draw a Simple Sketch

You will need:

  • A tape measure (or laser distance measurer)
  • Paper and pen
  • A calculator

What to do:

  1. Draw a simple floor plan of the room on paper. It doesn’t need to be professional — just make sure each wall and its position are clear.
  2. Mark the areas that will NOT be covered with wall stickers, such as doors, windows, cabinets, fireplaces, etc., so they can be deducted later.

Step 2: Measure Each Wall Area

1. Measure each wall’s width × height.

2. If the room has multiple walls, measure them one by one and write the measurements down.

Formula:

Coverable wall area = Width × Height − Area of doors / windows / cabinets

Note:

  • You do NOT need to deduct sockets, switches or small wall fixtures, as wall stickers can be easily cut around them.

Step 3: Calculate the Total Wall Area

1. Add together the areas of all walls that will be covered.

2. If you are decorating multiple rooms, calculate each room separately and then add them together to get the total area.

Step 4: Allow for Wastage (Very Important)

Wastage mainly comes from:

  • Cutting
  • Joining pieces
  • Corners and edges
  • Uneven or irregular wall shapes

Recommended wastage allowance:

  • Regular, simple walls: +10%
  • Many walls, corners or irregular walls: +12% to +15%

Formula:

Total area to buy = Total wall area × (1 + wastage rate)

Example:

  • Total wall area = 18.75 m²
  • Wastage rate = 10%
  • Area to buy = 18.75 × 1.10 = 20.625 m²

Step 5: Check the Product Coverage

On the product page, please check:

  • How many square metres (m²) one box covers

Step 6: Calculate How Many Boxes You Need

Formula:

  • Number of boxes = Total area to buy ÷ Area covered per box

Important: Always round UP to the next whole box.

Example:

  • Total area to buy = 20.625 m²
  • Coverage per box = 1.8 m²
  • 20.625 ÷ 1.8 ≈ 11.46 → You should buy 12 boxes

Step 7: Final Check Before Buying

Before placing your order, please make sure:

  1. You have checked the product specifications (coverage per box).
  2. You have considered corners, uneven walls, doors, windows and cabinets.
  3. You have allowed extra for wastage and future repairs.

Quick Summary

1. Measure the width and height of each wall

2. Deduct doors and windows to get the total wall area

3. Add 10%–15% for wastage

4. Check how much area one box covers

5. Calculate the number of boxes and round up

By following these steps, you can accurately calculate how many wall stickers you need — without wasting money or running short during installation.

We wish you a smooth installation and a beautiful new space in your home! 🌞
